Meet Our Staff
Ken Scheider, DVM
Dr. Ken Scheider joined Perinton Veterinary Hospital in January 2012 as director, but he has been with Monroe Veterinary Associates since 2008.
Dr. Scheider grew up in northern New Jersey and received his bachelor’s degree in animal science from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in 2003. As an undergraduate, he was captain of the track and field team and held the school’s record for indoor and outdoor pole vault.
After graduating from the University of Massachusetts, Dr. Scheider received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University in 2007, and he completed his clinical year at the University of Missouri. He then went on to complete a one-year rotating internship at Bay Area Veterinary Specialists in San Leandro, California. Following completion of his rotating internship, he gained two years of specialized surgical training as a surgical intern at Veterinary Specialists of Rochester. Before joining the Perinton veterinary team, Dr. Scheider was an associate at Irondequoit Animal Hospital. His professional interests include small animal orthopedic, soft tissue surgery, and pain management. He recently became a certified Fear Free professional.
Dr. Scheider has two dogs, Tiki (11-year-old lab mix) and Lafonda (11-year-old pit bull mix), and an 11-year-old cat named Oliver. During his free time, he enjoys watching football and baseball as well as spending time with his family. He and his wife, Janine (an associate veterinarian at Pittsford Animal Hospital), have two sons and one daughter.
Katie Fish, DVM
Dr. Katie Fish is an associate veterinarian at Perinton Veterinary Hospital. Prior to joining Perinton Veterinary Hospital, she attended the University at Buffalo, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Animal Health and Behavior in 2000, before continuing on to Cornell University for veterinary school.
During her undergraduate career at the University at Buffalo, Dr. Fish received numerous recognitions for her academic excellence. She was inducted into the national honor society, Phi Beta Kappa. She was also the recipient of the Grace Capen Award for Academic Excellence and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Fellowship. She went on to attend Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000 and was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2004.
Dr. Fish highly values fostering the human–animal bond throughout all stages of life. She enjoys managing a balance of both surgical and medical cases as well as educating clients, students, and staff.
When she is not at work, Dr. Fish enjoys playing the violin. She has played since she was seven years old and currently plays with the Penfield Symphony Orchestra. She also enjoys playing tennis and taking part in other outdoor activities, such as running. When time permits, Dr. Fish loves to travel, especially internationally. Her animal family includes three cats—Grimmlee, Bibelot, and Pascal.
Tomeka Smith, DVM
Dr. Tomeka Smith is an associate veterinarian at Perinton Veterinary Hospital. She most recently worked at Companion Animal Hospital, where she was the hospital director since July 2011. Prior to Companion, she cared for pets at the Animal Hospital of Pittsford.
Dr. Smith grew up in Jamaica/Barbados and attended the University of Guelph. She received a bachelor's degree in biological science and graduated with honors in 1999. She went on to attend the St. Georges University College of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded her doctorate of veterinary medicine in 2005. After receiving her degree, Dr. Smith completed a one year rotating internship at Veterinary Specialists of Rochester. Internal medicine and emergency surgery are among her many professional interests.
Dr. Smith's hobbies include running, yoga, traveling and spending time with her fiancé, Joe. At home, she enjoys the companionship of her four dogs, Tye, Newman, Abby, Princess and her cats Amara and Gracie.
Chelsea Spring, DVM
Dr. Chelsea Spring has been a full-time associate at Perinton Veterinary Hospital since May 2015, and previously was a part-time associate since July 2014. She has been an associate veterinarian with MVA since October 2013.
Dr. Spring grew up in Altamont, NY and received her Bachelor of Science degree from SUNY Oneonta in 2008. Between her undergraduate work and studying at Ross University in 2010, Dr. Spring worked and traveled in Australia and throughout Southeast Asia.
She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medication in 2013 from Ross University and completed her clinical year at Oklahoma State University. Her professional interests include internal medicine and working closely with her clients.
Dr. Spring shares her home with a Shiba Inu/Chao mix named Tucker and a tabby cat named Pickles. In her free time, she enjoys reading, scrapbooking and traveling.
The Veterinary Technicians
Kathy Sercu, LVT
Kathy is Perinton Veterinary Hospital's LVT Supervisor; she has been working in the animal field for 11 years. Kathy enjoys working with animals because not only is she making a difference in an animal's life, but she is also making a difference for its entire family, "seeing the smiles on the family's faces after their pet recovers makes it all worth it." In addition to being a Licensed Veterinary Technician in New York and North Carolina, Kathy is an EMT and Interior Firefighter in her "free time." She recently became a certified Fear Free professional.
A self-proclaimed "dog lady," Kathy shares her home with her boyfriend, Drew; her five dogs: Hanna, Halligan, MacKenzie, Lala, and Jaeger; three cats: Squeak, Stitch, and Arkham; two guinea pigs: Obi and Kenobi; and her fish. Kathy and her Lab, Halligan, enjoy competing in Canine Performance Events (CPE) agility in the American Kennel Club and the United Kennel Club conformations.
Char Finkle, LVT
Char Finkle is the full-time veterinary technician for Perinton Veterinary Hospital. She started working with the Monroe Veterinary Associates in 2016 at Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Services. Finkle earned her Associate's and Bachelor’s Degree in veterinary technology from Medaille College. She enjoys getting to know clients and their pets and being able to help them as much as he can.
She has four cats named Buddy, Carlisle, Oreo, and Penny, as well as a hedgehog named Luna. Outside of work, she enjoys playing guitar and ukelele, however most of the time she spends outside of work is with her family.
Kelly Kibbe, LVT
Kelly began her employment in the animal field when she was only 14. Kelly is currently a full-time Licensed Veterinary Technician and works at both Perinton Veterinary Hospital and Veterinary Specialists and Animal Emergency Service (VSES). She has worked at Perinton since 1995 and started at VSES in 2008. Kelly received her Associate’s degree from an online program through St. Petersburg, Florida, and is a licensed technician in New York State. Kelly has been at Perinton Veterinary Hospital for many years and says it feels like a home. She has watched it grow into a wonderful facility that she is glad to be a part of.
Kelly lives in Marion with her boyfriend, Dave, and her three wonderful children. Her family also includes Dolly, a fox terrier mix; Ducky, a pit-bull; and four cats named Peep, Daisy, Toodles, and Mimi. In her spare time, Kelly works with a cat foster group, Kitten Korner, helping with blood testing and vaccinating, as well as fostering and kitten rearing. Kelly and her family are very active, they enjoy getting out of the house and taking small day trips, going to the park, local sightseeing, going to concerts, going to the beach, attending community events, camping, boating, bike riding, and scouts.
Sarah Lewis, LVT
Sarah began working at Perinton Veterinary Hospital as a part-time Licensed Veterinary Technician in March 2002. She has 23 years of experience in the animal field. She enjoys the commitment at Perinton to provide the best possible service to the patients and clients.
Sarah lives with Craig, her husband; Sam, her son; Megan, her daughter; and her pets. Her animals include a dog named Dakota, two cats named Mogli and Mustache, a rat, and a dwarf hamster. Sarah enjoys reading, sewing beds for Rochester Hope for Pets, vegetable gardening, and walking her dog when she has free time.
Arielle Rogers, LVT
Arielle is a part-time Veterinary Technician at Perinton Veterinary Hospital, where she has worked since 2011. She holds a Veterinary Technology Associate’s degree from Alfred State College and is licensed in the State of New York. She is currently working at Strong Memorial Hospital in the NICU. Arielle enjoys working at Perinton Veterinary Hospital because she is able to do what she loves. This includes taking care of animals, as well as being part of a great work family.
Arielle enjoys running outside, traveling, and riding her horse when she has free time. She is also a very proud owner of a dachshund named Hercules!
The Animal Care Staff
Therese has been working in the animal field for nine years, and started in March 2013 as a full-time Animal Care Assistant at Perinton Veterinary Hospital. Therese received her Bachelor’s degree in Music and Anthropology from Ithaca College. She is also currently enrolled in a Veterinary Technician program at San Juan College and is in the process of studying to become a Nationally Approved Veterinary Assistant. She loves the sense of family and compassion that Perinton Veterinary Hospital offers its clients, patients, and employees alike.
When she has time, Therese enjoys playing the clarinet, gardening, and antiquing with her husband, John. Her animal family includes a pug named Sally; three cats named Sophie, Poops, and Stewie; and a tarantula named Tuco.
Jen is a full time Animal Care Assistant at Perinton Veterinary Hospital and has worked in the animal field for two years. She has a degree in Biology and is currently enrolled in Medaille College's Licensed Veterinary Technician program. Jen enjoys working at Perinton because it's a welcoming environment and there's ample opportunity to learn from her coworkers.
Jen enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, and cross country skiing. She also likes to volunteer at the humane society where she used to work. Jen lives in Rochester with her boyfriend Andrew and has a French Bulldog named Astrid and a Leopard Gecko named Toothless (she unintentionally started a How to Train Your Dragon theme with their names!).
Devon was born and raised in Brockport, NY and has been in the animal field since 2013. She is currently a Certified Phlebotomy Technician and loves working at Perinton because "we are a big, animal-loving family. We all can have fun at work while still getting our jobs done."
Devon's furry family members include her pitbull mix, Latte, and her three cats: Peach Fuzz, Charlie, and Granite. In her free time, Devon enjoys spending time with Latte, her boyfriend and her family. She also loves cooking, hiking, snowboarding, and getting her nails done.
Nichole has been with Perinton Veterinary Hospital as a full-time Animal Care Assistant since June 2015. She is currently attending Medaille College in order to earn a Veterinary Technology degree. Nichole enjoys working at Perinton because the staff is very welcoming and everyone was helpful while she was settling into her position. She particularly takes pride in Perinton’s caring atmosphere, “all the animals we see here are a part of our family… we make sure to provide them with the best care and ensure that they are taken care of to the best of our ability while they are here.”
Nichole’s furry family members consist of her two pitbull/german shepherd mixes, Zoey and Sophie; her rat terrier, Gracie May; her miniature pinscher, Rocco; and her domestic short-haired cat, Nala. In her free time, Nichole enjoys taking her dogs on walks and hikes through the woods on her property.
Maggie began her career with animals at the age of 10, working on a horse farm. She spent the next several years learning about and working with large animals, before starting her career in small animal care at Perinton Veterinary Hospital in 2013. She really enjoys helping clients by answering questions and providing quality and compassionate care. Maggie is currently pursuing an Associate’s degree in human services, as well as a veterinary technician degree. She is certified in first aid and AED and is Perinton's OSHA coordinator.
She has a 7-year-old black lab mix and a 4-year-old domestic long hair cat. She also has four horses, a Dutch Warmblood horse and three miniature horses. In her limited free time, Maggie enjoys photography, collecting bones, and crocheting.
The Reception Staff
Charmaine is currently a Client Service Representative Supervisor at Perinton Veterinary Hospital, where she has worked since September 1988. She has an Associate’s Degree in accounting. Charmaine loves working with the clients and their animals to keep them healthy and happy. She says, “It is both fun and rewarding working in a fast-paced hospital with a great team.”
When not at work, Charmaine enjoys spending time with her husband, hiking, gardening, mountain biking, and has an interest in photography. Her fur family includes four cats, Kara, Lee, Boomer, and Jixxer.
Taimi is our part-time Client Service Representative and started her first animal-related job in June 2010 with Perinton Veterinary Hospital. Prior to this, Taimi attended Pierce College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she received her Associate’s degree in business management. Taimi enjoys working at the Perinton Veterinary Hospital because she learns more about animals every day. She also enjoys seeing the sick and injured go home happy and healthy.
Taimi’s family includes Mike, her husband; Anson, her 13-year-old son; Oona, her three-legged dog; and JoJo, her 3-year-old cat. She enjoys walking Oona in all kinds of weather, attending swim classes, and being a busy mom.
Courtney Bullock is the newest Client Service Representative at Perinton Veterinary Hospital. She has a bachelor’s degree in music, jazz studies.
She loves being around animals and feels it’s rewarding to help others, a philosophy everyone at Perinton Veterinary Hospital shares.
Courtney has one cat named Fuss. When she’s not busy with Fuss or working, you can find Courtney inline skating, running, playing her saxophone or playing video games.
Jessenia Donohue is the full-time client service representative for Perinton Veterinary Hospital. While she was born in Rochester, she grew up in Pavilion, NY. She enjoys being part of the family at Perinton, and especially likes to meet new client’s “fur babies”. Donohue owns her own Yorkie-Pomeranian mix named Cojo.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with Cojo and her significant other, Jason. She also enjoys hiking, spending time outdoors, drawing and working with wood.
Kim began working as a Client Service Representative at Perinton Veterinary Hospital in July 2005, where she enjoys working with PVH’s great team, clients, and animals.
Kim’s furry family includes a lab named Echo, a greyhound named Tequila, and three cats, Chloe, Liddie, and Amaretto. When not at work, Kim enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and trying and learning new things. She enjoys running, being outdoors, and sightseeing.
Jennifer is a native of the Rochester area and is a full-time Client Service Representative at Perinton Veterinary Hospital. Before joining the staff at Perinton, Jennifer worked at the Seneca Park Zoo. She likes the welcoming and friendly environment of the hospital and enjoys seeing the animals being well-cared for by the doctors, staff, and their owners.
Jennifer enjoys going to the Adirondacks every summer with her husband, Kevin, and 1-year-old son, Miles. Her furry family members consist of Barkley, a 7-year-old cockapoo, and Monty, a 12-year-old cat. Barkley especially loves joining the family in the Adirondacks, he loves to run through the woods and be free! While not at work, Jennifer also likes yoga as well as walking and biking along the canal.
The Kennel Staff
Kim Meyert is the kennel supervisor at Perinton Veterinary Hospital. She has been working in the animal-care industry for 10 years. Kim has a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in education.
When asked what she likes best about working at Perinton Veterinary Hospital, she said she’s happy to be working with a staff that cares so much for their patients, clients and each other.
Kim shares her home with two dogs, Kira and Peggy Sandwich and two cats, Andre and Keiko. When not at work, you can find her fostering bottle baby kittens and puppies, skiing, traveling or playing any type of trivia.
Mackenzi is currently working as a part-time Kennel Attendant at Perinton Veterinary Hospital. She is enrolled at FLTCC and BOCES and has previously competed in the Skills USA Competition. Mackenzi began working at Perinton Veterinary Hospital because she wanted to be involved with animals. She would eventually like to enter the animal field as either a dog or horse trainer.
In her free time, Mackenzi enjoys grooming her dog, Silky, and working with her former FLTCC teacher's dogs: Blitz, Frankie, and Noel. She also likes to help people train their dogs and has successfully trained one dog named Balto.
Esther’s passion for animal care began when she owned her first cat at six years old; she has now been working with animals since 2005. Born and raised in Syracuse, NY, Esther has a Bachelor of Science degree in Graphic Design and Art. She has always had a special connection with animals (others refer to her as the cat whisperer) and enjoys helping animals in any way that she can.
Esther has five cats, also known as her “fur kids”: Mr. Myster, Roxanne, Sweetie, Gitane, and Jellicle. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her human friends and family; going to the gym; reading; photographing nature, animals, and unique environments; and painting pelt portraits.
A native of the greater Rochester area, Tracy began working as a part-time kennel attendant in August 2015. Tracy has an associates degree in art from Finger Lakes Community College. Although this is her first position in an animal-related field, she has always wanted to work with animals. Tracy enjoys working at Perinton Veterinary Hospital because she enjoys working as a team with her coworkers.
Tracy has a son, Brandon, who is in his last year of college and a kitten named Bella. When not at work, Tracy enjoys hiking, reading, exercising, and spending time with her family and friends.
Kate began her career at Perinton Veterinary Hospital in June 2013. Though she has a Bachelor of Arts in creative writing, working with animals is her passion. Kate has two and a half jobs, all in animal care, and spends her free time with her bull terrier/pit mix named Abigale. Kate enjoys working at Perinton because she works with a "great team of people who take great pride in the work they do."
Emily began working as a full-time Kennel Attendant in October 2013. This is her first time working with animals professionally. Emily loves animals and loves knowing that she can make a difference in their lives. She says that this is the most fulfilling work she has ever done.
Emily owns three dogs: Auri, a schnoodle; Zoey, a schipperke; and Mako, a schipperke mix. According to Emily, her dog Auri was the whole reason her professional goals shifted to veterinary care. In her free time, Emily enjoys playing DnD and watching TV shows such as “Firefly” and “Dr. Who.” She also spends a lot of time with her dogs and attends Medaille College where she is studying to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician.
Mia C. Sandifur is a part-time kennel attendant at Perinton Veterinary Hospital. She was born in Elmira and grew up mostly in the country. She is currently studying to earn her veterinary technology degree through Penn Foster. Mia enjoys working at Perinton because it allows her to follow her dreams to become a veterinary technician.
Mia has four dogs - Ice, an American Eskimo, Ellie, an American Eskimo-mix, and two golden retrievers named Bailey and Sergeant. She is also a volunteer firefighter with the White Springs Fire Department, and enjoys working out, doing puzzles, and helping out on her friend’s farm.
